Anyway, the point I was making is that
1:60,000 scale topo maps are very "zoomed out". There is very little detail for navigation. You can tell what valley you are in, or what glacier you are on, but that's about it. Entire ridge lines and terrain complexities are simply not seen in this scale of topo map.

1:24,000 scale topo map is much better for ground navigation.
